Malalai Joya, A Woman Among Warlords: The Extraordinary Story of an Afghan Who Dared to Raise Her Voice. The Afghan parliamentarian, who has been called “the bravest woman in Afghanistan,” discusses her new memoir. She has publicly denounced the presence of warlords and war criminals in the parliament and was suspended from her post in May 2007. Stacey D’Erasmo and Jonathan Lethem read from their new novels set in post-9/11 New York City. D’Erasom’s The Sky Below will be published in January 2009 and traces the life of an obituary writer in post-9/11 Manhattan. Al Gore, Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis. The former vice president’s new book gathers “all of the most effective solutions that are available now” for the climate crisis.
