Job Moves

Susan G. Komen for the Cure hires Secretary Locke’s wife: The Susan G. Komen for the Cure announces Mona Lee Locke as its national operations director. Locke, whose husband is Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, recently relocated to the D.C. area after serving as executive director of Komen’s Puget Sound Affiliate. As national operations director, Locke will report to the COO, who leads Komen’s 122-city domestic affiliate network from the organization’s Dallas headquarters.

{mosads}“We are delighted to welcome Mona to Washington, D.C. Her experience and background will be of enormous benefit to the breast cancer patients and survivors in the national capital area,” said Jenny Luray, president of the Susan G. Komen Advocacy Alliance.

Locke was formerly a journalist in Seattle at an NBC affiliate. It was there she met her husband; when he became governor, she left journalism to become first lady. She started the nonprofit Foundation for Early Learning, building it up to a $7 million organization.

Locke, who went back into television after her husband left office as governor four years ago, also sees great value in reporting things that are happening in communities around the world.

Two years ago, when the secretary got the request to come to D.C., the two moved their family of three children, ages 12, 10 and 5, and adjusted to D.C. living.

“My biggest challenge so far here has been navigating the streets around D.C.,” Locke said.

U.S. Global Leadership Coalition hires two new senior executives:  The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) added two new senior executives to its team, Tod Preston as government relations director and John K. Glenn as policy director.

Preston will manage and execute government relations and Glenn will manage analysis and research efforts.

Previously, Preston served as vice president for U.S. government relations at Population Action International, where he led advocacy and outreach to policymakers. Before joining the USGLC, Glenn was director of foreign policy at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, where he led Transatlantic Trends, an annual survey of foreign policy attitudes in the U.S. and Europe.

Former member of oversight now director of government relations: Dan Hickey, a former oversight and investigations staffer for transportation and infrastructure, is now director of government relations for Federal Signal, an Illinois-based company. Federal Signal has not had any D.C. presence prior to Hickey, who started up its local office.

Hickey has been involved in monitoring and analyzing the progress of the stimulus as it relates to transportation and infrastructure programs. Hickey was previously a Department of Transportation deputy assistant secretary for the previous administration and has also worked for U.S. Airways.

Tully Rinckey adds new partner: Tully Rinckey PLLC added attorney John Mahoney as a partner in its D.C. law office. Mahoney will focus his practice on the federal sector of labor and employment law.
