Poll: Dems lead Republicans by 13 points on generic congressional ballot

Democrats hold a 13-point lead over Republicans among likely voters on a generic congressional ballot, according to a new poll. 

The CNN survey, which was conducted by SSRS and released on Monday, revealed that 55 percent of likely voters favor the Democratic candidate while 42 percent of likely voters prefer the GOP candidate. 

The Democrats’ lead is similar to the one they held in a CNN poll released on Oct. 9. It found that 54 percent of likely voters surveyed favored a Democratic congressional candidate in their district. Forty-one percent of likely voters, meanwhile, said they preferred a Republican candidate.{mosads}

CNN notes that 42 percent of respondents said their vote in this year’s midterm elections will be to express opposition to President Trump. Meanwhile, 28 percent of those polled said their vote will express support for him. 

Twenty-eight percent of respondents said their vote won’t be about the president. 

Trump’s approval rating sits at 39 percent, according to the new poll. 

The survey’s release comes just one day before the midterms, as Democrats attempt to retake control of the House and possibly the Senate. 

While the CNN survey shows Democrats with a wide lead, other polls have shown a tighter race between the parties.

A Politico/Morning Consult poll released on Monday showed that Democrats have a 3-point lead over Republicans on the generic ballot.
