Costco recalls mattresses over reports of mold
Just under 50,000 mattresses sold at Costco in recent months are being recalled over mold concerns, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced Thursday.
The recall affects Novaform brand mattresses sold exclusively at Costco between January and June in the San Francisco Bay and Pacific Northwest.
The CPSC said that water may have damaged the foam inside the mattresses during manufacturing, allowing mold to develop. Mold can be a health risk, especially to people with compromised immune systems, damaged lungs or mold allergies.
The commission has received more than 500 complaints about mold in the mattress models, it noted in the recall announcement.
The CPSC instructs customers who purchased the recalled Novaform ComfortGrande 14-inch and Novaform DreamAway 8-inch mattresses to call manufacturer FXI to arrange a full refund or replacement.
Costco is reportedly alerting all known customers who purchased one of the recalled items.
