BEER. Silver Eagle Distributors, a distributor for Anheuser-Busch and independent beers, recently hired Federal Advocates to work on federal legislation and regulatory issues related to the U.S. beverage industry, particularly on matters dealing with distribution, according to disclosures. Former Rep. Chris Carney (D-Pa.) will work on the account, as will Michael Stroud, former deputy chief counsel of the House Homeland Security Committee. 

GENDER INEQUALITY. The Population Institute, a nonprofit working to promote access to family planning information, education and services, signed Glover Park Group to work on lobbying related to gender inequality and rapid population growth in the Sahel region of Africa. Tod Preston, former senior legislative assistant to Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.); Andrew King, former deputy chief of staff to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.); and Kerry O’Brien, former legislative director to Rep. Bill Keating (D-Mass.) will work on the account.

CANNABIS. The National Cannabis Roundtable signed Squire Patton Boggs to work on federal law and policy governing medical research, financial transactions and tax deductions applicable to cannabis and on allowing states and territories to set and enforce their own laws governing cannabis use. Bret Boyles, former chief of staff to ex-Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) and Natasha Hammond, former assistant for policy to former Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) will work on the account.

HEALTH CARE. Health-E Commerce hired Advanced Policy Consulting to work on tax and health care issues as they relate to flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts, as well as advocating for the protection and expansion of these accounts. Matt McGinley, former chief of staff to ex-Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), will work on the account.

TRADE. The Texas-based economic development and policy advocacy company The Borderplex Alliance hired Doucet Consulting Solutions to work on passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Shane Doucet, onetime legislative assistant to former Rep. Chris John (D-La.) will work on the account.

BIO WASTE. Husch Blackwell Strategies signed Safety Tree Service – Sequest Wood Waste Solutions, a Missouri-based company, to work on issues related to federal grants and appropriations for bio waste technology and machinery. Christian Morgan, former chief of staff to Rep. Ann Wagner (R-Mo.) will work on the account.
