Under Contract

• Northrop Grumman System Corp. is making drones and helping the Navy with upkeep and support. On Friday, the company received a $61.3 million boost to an existing contract it has with the armed fighting force to ensure that unmanned aircraft is “mission-capable for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions,” according to a Defense Department release. A large chunk of the work will take place at the home base of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md., but some will take place “outside [the] continental United States.”

• The National Labor Relations Board is holding a training conference for field managers at a hotel in Georgetown. The cost to hold and cater the event, in addition to renting rooms for a total of about 80 people, comes to $100,311. The Westin Georgetown won the contract for the multi-day event.

{mosads}• Tully International and Preting LLC will be working with the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute, which trains “personnel in the foreign affairs community,” including longtime veterans of the service as well as newcomers. The contractors will be responsible for classes titled: “Managing Your Personal Security” and “Hostage Survival.” The federal documents withhold the value of the contracts.

• Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support, an agency within the Defense Department, awarded a small business in Puerto Rico a $21.2 million contract to make the uniform shirts and pants used by the Navy. M&M Manufacturing is expected to finish the work by June 2015, but the contract could be extended for another four years.

• The Mine Safety and Health Administration, a division of the Labor Department, awarded a $610,000 contract to Four Peaks Enterprises. The company will provide staffing for the National Mine Health and Safety Academy health and wellness center, located on a 76-acre training facility in West Virginia, to help “incorporate strategies to promote a healthier workplace.” The academy includes about 88 full-time Labor Department officials and 85 full-time contractor personnel. There are fluctuating numbers of students there, up to 600, who are required to complete 45 minutes of physical activity per day.
