Deeds hits McDonnell after he delivers Republican address
Virginia gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds (D) slammed his Republican opponent Bob McDonnell the same day the latter stepped into national spotlight by delivering the GOP weekly address.
The rural Democratic state Senator recently enjoyed a good deal of national attention himself, appearing with President Barack Obama at a campaign rally in northern Virginia.
Deeds took to Twitter to make his comments on Saturday. The tweets came from his new campaign account @DeedsCountry:
@BobMcDonnell voted for $8 Million slash to GOF in 2002, the same year that Gov. Warner announced GOF helped keep jobs in Patrick County
@BobMcDonnell voted three times to slash a total of $16 million from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund
The GOF, or Governor’s Opportunity Fund, is a discretionary account that is designed to spur job growth through contributions to localities in the commonwealth. Deeds has pushed for an increase of the GOF throughout his campaign.
McDonnell used a portion of the Republican address to lay out how his agenda for Virginia will create jobs. The former state Attorney General wants to sell state-run liquor stores to raise transportation funds, engage in offshore oil drilling, and increase access to higher education.
“Together, we will use innovation and free-markets to bring new jobs and more opportunities to Virginians, and America,” he said.
