McCaskill: ‘NO WAY’ Congress will buy private jets

Sen. Claire McCaskill tweeted her dismay at an item included in a defense appropriations bill that provides funding for private jets accessible to members of Congress.

The Missouri Democrat tweeted Thursday:

NO WAY! I’m embarrassed that anyone thought this was a good idea. – McCaskill Says No to Gulf Stream Jet… http://tumblr.com/xbx2ljw1r

“This just makes no sense. Talk about the wrong message at the wrong time,” McCaskill said in the linked blog post.

“While American families are tightening their belts there is no way we should be buying extra executive jets. No wonder so many people think we don’t get it,” she added.

The centrist Democrat wrote on her blog that while the Air Force only requested one private Gulfstream jet, the House Appropriations Committee added two more jets. The Senate is not currently considering a counterpart bill.
