McCain toes careful line on town hall meetings
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) treaded carefully on the issue of hostile town hall crowds that members of Congress have recently faced in their home districts.
The town meetings have become a hotbed of controversy. A new Democratic National Committee ad campaign paints protesters at the meetings as “angry mobs” of “rabid right wing extremists” incited by the Republican party and special interest groups.
In his latest tweet, McCain did not seem to take any particular stance on the audience members at the meeting:
Town hall meetings are an American tradition – we should allow everyone to express their views without disruption – even if we disagree!
Perhaps the one takeaway from this message is that McCain refrained from taking a hard stance one way or another. Look for a follow up on McCain’s behalf.
