On Obama Gitmo plan, Hoekstra says Michigan won’t ‘bail him out’
Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) remains on the offensive against the Obama administration in reaction to a new plan to transfer Guantanamo Bay prisoners into facilities on the American mainland.
Michigan was selected as one of the potential states that could house the detainees; a choice that miffed ninth-term Republican. He tweeted late Monday night:
Potential Gitmo prisoner move gets lots of attention.Obama made a hasty decision on Jan 21 to close Gitmo.Michigan shouldn’t bail him out.
Sunday night, Hoekstra said he would “do everything possible to stop this” plan from being enacted. Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) also registered his opposition to the plan due to a report that mentioned the military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. as another possible destination for the suspected terrorists.
