Reid warns of GOP ‘scare tactics’ on healthcare reform
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) cautioned against Republican use of “scare tactics” to defeat healthcare reform legislation as the Senate heads into the August recess.
Reid will have quite a task at hand when the Senate returns from recess. Senate Finance Committee Chair Max Baucus (D-Mont.) set a September 15 deadline for his committee to pass a bipartisan version of the health bill.
The Nevada Democrat tweeted:
Republican scare tactics are distracting from a serious debate about health insurance reform. This is no time to instill unfounded fears.
One has to wonder if Reid issued a subtle warning to Senate Democrats as they head back to their districts for recess at the end of the week.
Democrats have faced a number of hostile audiences at controversial town halls in their districts. Some news sources have reported that the conservative groups have placed protesters in the meeting crowds.
Already, Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) faced a boisterous crowd at a healthcare town hall in Philadelphia.
