Vitter channels Saints QB on maintaining Gitmo prison
In high school, it’s usually a good thing to rally around the football team, especially the quarterback.
Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) apparently learned this lesson well, using the words of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees to bolster his argument for keeping the Guantanamo Bay prison open.
Vitter tweeted Thursday:
Read Drew Brees’ comments on Saints Insider. I agree with Drew. Worst thing we could do is shut down Gitmo. http://snipurl.com/obrw6
Brees waded into the Guantanamo debate on Tuesday, saying that the “worst thing we can do is shut that baby down,” after touring the Cuban base as part of a U.S.O. trip.
“I think there’s a big misconception as to how we are treating those prisoners; those detainees over there. They are being treated probably 10 times better than any prisoner in a U.S. prison,” Brees said.
President Barack Obama announced his intent to close the base over the winter, but plans to close it have yet to be made.
