Congress to begin hearings on fatal Metro crash
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) tweeted that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will hold hearings to investigate the June 22 Metrorail crash in Washington, DC that claimed 9 lives.
Oversight hearing today on Metro Red Line crash and DC gov response at 2 PM. Fmr. Oversight Chairman Tom Davis appearing at witness for us.
The testimony of former Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) may be notable. Davis chaired the Oversight Committee from 2003 to 2007.
Davis championed Metro during his time in Congress, advocating a stable funding source for the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority (WMATA), which operates Metro. The same bill, which died in the Senate, sought to increase funding for WMATA.
Currently, several separate jurisdictions that transit system serves independently fund it.
Issa is ranking member of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
