Va. GOP gubernatiorial candidate distances self from Palin

Bob McDonnell, the Republican candidate for governor of Virginia, distanced himself from Sarah Palin during a Twitterview today.

National Journal’s Hotline blog asked McDonnell how Palin could help him win the election. Here is the exchange:

@bobmcdonnell You say you’d welcome Sarah Palin to VA to stump for you. You need swing voters; how would she help you with them?

@thehotline Palin was a good reform Gov. for Alaska, and this campaign is about Virginia.

The GOP nominee was less enthusiastic about Palin than he was yesterday when he spoke to ABC News.

McDonnell said he thought Palin was a “good spokesman” and said that he would welcome anyone who would come to Virginia to speak on his behalf. But the former state Attorney General also said he did not think high-profile endorsements would effect the campaign.

The Hotline responded to McDonnell’s answer by tweeting:

@bobmcdonnell Come on, Bob, that sounds like a talking point. Please answer our Palin Q.

Palin has indicated that she wants to stay active in national politics. She has continued to comment on national issues since she announced her resignation as governor of Alaska.
