Kennedy, Mary Jo Kopechne Twitter trending topics
The death of Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) last night has Twitter users abuzz; three out of the ten trending topics are related to the deceased senator, one about a tragic incident involving him and a former aide.
“Senator Ted Kennedy” and “Teddy” are the number 8 and 10 topics respectively. Trending topics indicate the most popular subjects on the microblogging service.
But trending ahead of both is Mary Jo Kopechne; a woman who worked for Robert F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign and was killed when Sen. Kennedy drove a car in which she was a passenger into a body of water off Chappaquiddick Island, Mass.
Kennedy later pled guilty to a misdemeanor. Some of Kennedy’s opponents often used the incident to criticize him.
Kopechne’s name comes in at number 7.
