Lawmakers and politicos tweet remembrance of Kennedy

Outpourings of condolences have flowed since early this morning, after veteran Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) succumbed to brain cancer at the age of 77.

Many lawmakers and politicos have taken to Twitter to remember the “Liberal Lion” of the Senate.

Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, tweeted:

Woke up in Boston to news of Sen. Kennedy’s passing. My deepest condolences, on behalf of all of us in uniform, go out to his family.:

Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) tweeted:

I didn’t know Sen. Kennedy well, but his public service and legacy is an inspiration for all of us in the Senate.

The National Senatorial Campaign Committee said tweeted:

We join millions of people in Massachusetts and across the U.S. in remembering the public service, and life of Senator Ted Kennedy.

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) said via Twitter:

Most Americans cannot even remember a time without Ted Kennedy.

Whatever your political views, his lion-like conviction was respected. It was that conviction that gave a voice to the powerless.

Grace and I came to know Ted and Vicki in his later years in the Senate, and we count it a privilege to have known him.

Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), said via Twitter:

I just heard about Sen. Kennedy, it is so incredibly sad especially given that my memories of him are that of a politician who reached

across party lines. something that is painfully missing in todays politics. I remember his voice more than anything the times we met

being larger than life and booming. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

I fear politics without politicians that reach across party lines when it is necessary and important. Anyone that want’s to know why Sen.

Kennedy is such an American legend. Read his speech at the 1980 convention after conceding to Jimmy Carter.
