Gore joins new liberal Twitter networking site

A new website that bills itself as “the directory of progressives on Twitter” just acquired one of its most high- profile users, former Vice President Al Gore.

Gore signed up for the site on Monday night. This message appeared in his Twitter feed:

just joined http://tweetprogress.us a directory of progressives on twitter. #p2

TweetProgress had a “viral launch” late Sunday night into Monday, meaning that Twitterers started using the site before the founders intended for it to go public.

Gore now works as an environmental activist and heads a television network called Current TV.

The hashtag #p2 used by Gore stands for “progressives 2.0” and is a relatively new tag used by liberals to indicate their activity on Twitter. Conservatives have a similar tag, #TCOT, meaning “top conservatives on Twitter.”
