Maryland basketball coach tweets remembrance of Novak

Maryland Men’s basketball coach Gary Williams took to Twitter to memorialize one of his team’s most famous fans, conservative columnist Bob Novak.

Novak passed away yesterday at the age of 78 after battling brain cancer for over a year. Williams tweeted on Wednesday afternoon:

Robert Novak was a true friend of Maryland Basketball. Both [former coach] Lefty Driesell and myself enjoyed Bob’s loyal support.

Bob’s friendship never wavered. Once Bob and I became friends, we were friends for life.

Bob’s college basketball teams were Maryland and Illinois, his alma mater.

His love of our team and passion for the game were always there for our team and myself. Bob will be greatly missed.

Novak was a frequent fixture at Maryland basketball games throughout his time in Washington. ACCSports.com, the website for the University of Maryland’s athletic conference, noted his passing yesterday:

Longtime political columnist Robert Novak died on Tuesday. He was an Illinois alum but became a huge Maryland fan, particularly in basketball.
