Barack Obama’s official Twitter account said “history was made today” when now-Justice Sonia Sotomayor took her oath on Saturday morning, becoming the first Latina to sit on the high court’s 220-year history.
The account, which the Democratic National Committee operates, tweeted:
History was made today when Sonia Sotomayor took the judicial oath and joined the Supreme Court. Congratulations, Justice.
The ceremony took place in a conference room inside the Supreme Court building. President Obama did not attend the swearing-in, but will hold a White House reception in her honor on Wednesday.
