Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) used his opposition to the “Cash for Clunkers” extension on his campaign site in an effort to differentiate himself from his state’s Democratic senator, Tim Johnson.
Thune tweeted a link to the site on Wednesday:
The Senate will add $2B for the “Clunkers” program. Congress cannot continue to throw piles of borrowed money around. http://bit.ly/Kl1YO
The South Dakota Republican’s campaign site banners “Thune and Johnson Differ on ‘Clunker’ Money” and asks for a donation on the sidebar.
Two Democratic state senators may enter the race against Thune in 2010, but for now it looks like he is campaigning against Johnson as a straw man.
