Chairman of Joint Chiefs says ‘you bet’ he’ll still tweet

Admiral Michael Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff took to Twitter to dispel reports that his Twitter account might be in jeopardy because the Defense Department is considering a blanket ban of social networking sites.

The Pentagon is considering blocking access to Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking sires because of a U.S. Strategic Command study that concluded that the sites may pose security concerns.

Mullen tweeted late Tuesday:

Obviously we need to find right balance between security and transparency. We are working on that. But am I still going to tweet? You bet.

While Mullen claimed he would still tweet, the Marine Corps today decided to go ahead with a unilateral ban of social networking sites today in the wake of the Pentagon review.
