Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) reiterated his strong opposition to the ‘Cash for Clunkers’ government auto rebates after he decided against filibustering legislation pumping funds into the program on Monday.
The Arizona Republican tweeted:
I remain strongly opposed to “Cash for Clunkers” – it’s a terrible idea!
Last week, McCain indicated he would filibuster a bill providing $2 billion in additional funding for ‘Cash for Clunkers.’ The 2008 Republican presidential nominee backed down from his threat today.
“Clunkers” provides vouchers for consumers who trade in low-mileage vehicles for fuel efficient models. The program ran through its original $1 billion mandate in its first six days of existence.
