New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie (R) tweeted some well-wishes for the tumultuous New York Mets today:
Doubleheader today for the Mets, hopefully they can sweep the Rockies and make it 6 in a row. #mets #mlb
The Mets have generated tons of headlines over the past week. The team fired a member of the front office for challenging one of the team’s minor league squads to a fight.
At the news conference announcing the decision, Mets General Manager Omar Minaya blamed the firing on beat writer who broke the fight story, causing a furor.
Apparently, the front office hoopla has not affected the team, which has reeled off four straight wins.
One political question: Will Christie’s fandom doom his chances of picking up New Jersey’s “Yankees vote”? If former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani didn’t alienate Mets voters by wearing his Yankee pride, we think not.
