It’s no surprise that Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) chose to oppose Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court confirmation. DeMint did not offer any kind words for the appeals court judge.
After the South Carolina Republican announced his decision, he responded to a question from ABC’s Jake Tapper via Twitter on Wednesday:
I’ll oppose Sotomayor, judges must base decisions on the Constitution, not personal views http://tinyurl.com/lbahl5
@JimDeMint do u see examples from Judge Sotomator’s judicial record that indicate she’ll let her personal views rule? or is it the speeches?
@jaketapper both. and in my conversation with her.
DeMint called Sotomayor “someone who relies on personal views and sympathies to guide their decisions.”
“Unfortunately, Judge Sotomayor has not inspired confidence that she will consistently base her decisions on our Constitution and laws,” DeMint said in a statement.
