According to Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Tex.), the House Energy and Commerce Committee may resume its markup up of healthcare reform legislation tomorrow. However, the congressman does not believe that the House will vote on the bill before the August recess.
Burgess said that Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) informed him of the markup’s status.
The Texas Republican tweeted on Tuesday:
Last night I was told Energy&Commerce might resume work on Dem’s health bill on Weds. This was from committee chair.
Today word is we will not have a floor vote on the bill before leaving for Aug recess.
Still a possibility we might resume committee work, or we may be done there as well.
The status of the health bills in the House and the Senate has been a matter of speculation on Capitol Hill ever since Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced that a vote on healthcare reform would not occur until after the August recess.
Burgess, who is a physician, chairs the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee.
