Reid tweet: On healthcare ‘I want to get it done promptly’

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) used Twitter on to address his decision to delay debate on the healthcare reform bill until September, saying “I want to get it done promptly.”

The Democratic leader, seeking to fend off Republican sentiments that their opposition to the bill is working, tweeted on Thursday:

On health care reform, I agree w/Obama. I want to get it right. I want to get it done promptly. We need a quality bill.

Another Senate Democrat, Mark Warner (Va.), tweeted earlier that that the delay would allow lawmakers to craft a bill that would better control costs and improve quality.

Reid and Warner’s comments fall in line with President Barack Obama’s remarks on Thursday that a delay would be acceptable “if people are legitimately working out tough problems.”

Republican Sen. Jim DeMint (S.C.), one of the most vociferous opponents of the current healthcare reform legislation, told his Twitter followers “your voices are being heard” in reaction to the delay.
