House Republican: This Congress ‘most fiscally irresponsible…of all time’

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) called the current Congress “the most fiscally irresponsible…of all time” this afternoon.

He tweeted:

The six-term congressman linked to a YouTube video of his House floor speech during debate over PAYGO legislation. The statutory budget rule requires that all new proposals be ‘budget neutral’ or financed with savings from other programs.

Ryan argued the rules, which are designed to rein in deficit spending, were ineffective, calling the bill a “fiscal facade.”

“This not a bill to get Congress to live within its means. This is a bill to give congressmen and women an ability to…make it look like they’re being fiscally responsible in the most fiscally irresponsible Congress of all time,” he added.

Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.) also knocked the PAYGO rules, tweeting:

On floor voting on a motion to recommit this failed paygo bill. This is a fig leaf attempting to hide this bloated spending spree we are on
