Schwarzenegger evokes globetrotting sailor to urge budget action

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) used the story of Zac Sunderland, the youngest person to sail around the world alone, to encourage the state legislature to pass a budget.

He tweeted:

Just called @ZacSunderland to congratulate him on sailing round the world. If we had action like that at the Capitol, budget would be done.

Sunderland, who is 17-years-old, returned to Marina Del Rey, CA today after completing his 13-month journey.

Neither party in the state legislature has been able amass the votes necessary to pass a budget for the fiscally maligned state. Because lawmakers have not reached an agreement, the state had to issue IOUs to creditors and credit agencies downgraded their bond ratings.
