Grassley doesn’t reply to his tweeps very often

Iowa Republican and frequent Twitterer Sen. Chuck Grassley said this afternoon that he doesn’t write back to his tweeps very often.

“Quite frankly when you have seven or 8,000 people potentially communicating with you, it’s impossible to do it,” Grassley told ABC News Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper on Wednesday.

But he quickly replied “but I do keep up with that they tell me.”

Although Grassley doesn’t interact with his followers on the social media site, he said that he valued it as a means of “keeping people informed, keeping them interested, keeping them in touch with me.”

“The same way that maybe the most elementary things that members of Congress have been doing for 200 years is town meetings,” the Senate Judiciary Committee member said during a break from the Sotomayor confirmation hearings.

Grassley cited Twitter as the “lastest method of communication” in line with the television, fax machine, and the internet.
