California Sen. Barbara Boxer (D) fired an opening salvo today against former Hewlett-Packard CEO and possible election opponent Carly Fiorina.
She tweeted:
Carly Fiorina failed to register business and foundation with county, state, and federal officials http://tinyurl.com/lztuwf
Boxer linked to a San Francisco Chronicle article that alleges that the former McCain campaign adviser failed to register her business and charitable foundation with the California state and federal authorities, including the Internal Revenue Service. The article surmised:
With Republican leaders already touting Fiorina’s business acumen as the basis for a run against Boxer, Fiorina’s apparent failure to attend to basic legal details could damage her political profile.
Fiorina has not yet officially declared her candidacy, but has been widely rumored to be in the mix to challenge third-term senator.
Some think Fiorina’s centrist credentials and business background could make a potential run against Boxer competitive. The California Democrat’s tweet seems to indicate that.
