Boehner excoriates stimulus funds directed at government website

House Minority Leader John Boehner (Ohio) used an $18 million appropriation to re-design a government website to blast the stimulus bill today in a conference call, which the RNC live-tweeted:

Leader Boehner comments on ridiculous item today about $18 million being spent on recovery.gov. See here: http://bit.ly/1DbBfO #RNC

Recovery.gov is designed to inform the public on how the stimulus bill is re-energizing the American economy. The $18 million spent on the redesign was taken from stimulus funds.

The RNC also released a web video mocking the funding source for the website’s re-design.

Boehner added that the GOP would be resolute in their opposition to Democratic proposals on yet to be voted on in the House:

Leader Boehner: GOP wouldn’t pass a natl energy tax or govt takeover of health care if in majority, will do everything to prevent it #RNC

The RNC call represents a push-back against a Democratic counteroffensive to promote the stimulus package yesterday.

The DNC scheduled two conference calls and bought cable ad time in Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) district criticizing him for opposing the stimulus.

A DNC web video also accused Boehner of making baseless claims on the stimulus.
