Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Mark Reynolds’ All-Star bid just picked up an influential backer. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) tweeted his support for the young slugger:
Vote for Mark Reynolds for All-Star! He is a great athlete and an outstanding role model. Go D-backs, 3 in a row!
Fans can vote Reynolds, or one of four other National League players, onto the NL All-Star team as the final player on the roster.
The University of Virginia product has hit an impressive 24 home runs and batted in a hefty 64 runs. Reynolds, however, has a sub-par .264 batting average and has struck out a woeful 114 times in just 82 games.
Since I’m pulling for Nationals shortstop and hometown hero Cristian Guzman, I won’t post the link to vote for Reynolds.
