Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said that her new colleague, former comedian Al Franken (D-Minn.), was “humbled” by his appearance in the Senate yesterday, perhaps in response to his toned-down press conference yesterday.
She tweeted:
Welcoming Al Franken today.Swearing in at 12:15. Good example of a democracy with respect for rule of law. So close. Sure it humbled him.
McCaskill also commented on the eight-month legal battle that decided Franken’s victory over former Sen. Norm Coleman (R), saying it was a “[g]ood example of a democracy.”
Franken’s first appearance in the Senate is here:
UPDATED 11:13am: Sen. McCaskill responded, tweeting:
Don’t know why anyone would misinterpret my comments on Franken.Only meant to show respect for him and his hard fought victory.Welcome Al!
