Palin backs missile program
Sarah Palin, along with Alaska’s Senate delegation, is working to save several missile silos slated to be eliminated by Obama administration defense budget cuts.
The Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee tweeted:
Defense Dept plan to stop progress @ AK Ft Greely missile silos may be reversed w/new Senate bill. I’ll support efforts to halt defense cuts
Fort Greely, which is located over 330 miles north of Anchorage is the site of a number of Ground Based Interceptor missiles. The missile silos are part of a missile defense program targeted at projectiles launched by North Korea or Iran, according to the Anchorage Daily News.
Defense cuts proposed by President Obama would eliminate some of the silos at the base. Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska), however, added a provision to the 2010 National Defense Appropriations Act that includes additional funding for the missiles sites.
