Minutes ago, former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) conceded the race to Franken. Coleman’s announcement concludes an eight-month court battle to decide the contest. Franken’s victory ensures that the Senate Democrats have a 60 vote contingent that could override Republican attempts to filibuster.

The timing of the decision could not be more apt, as the Senate is due to take up climate change legislation and healthcare reform in the coming months.
