Inglis: ‘today I want more than ever to be his friend’

Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.) has been one of the few lawmakers to tweet about Gov. Mark Sanford’s (R-S.C.) extramarital affair.

Inglis has this to tweet about his fellow South Carolinian:

I haven’t always agreed with Governor Sanford’s policies or politics, but today I want more than ever to be his friend.

Not one of us is capable of fully living the truths we proclaim. Each of us is dependent on grace. I’m praying Psalm 51 for Mark Sanford.

Inglis’s support is notable in light of other politicians’ efforts to distance themselves from the governor. State Rep. Nikki Haley (R-S.C.), who is running for governor in 2010, removed a picture of Sanford from her campaign website after Sanford revealed the affair.

Haley had been positioning herself as Sanford’s heir in the state house.
