Both lawmakers and bloggers were tweeting from last night’s Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park in Washington. The Democrats took the game 15-10, beating the GOP for the first time since 2000.
The tweeting started early yesterday afternooon when Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) shared his lack of baseball knowledge with his tweeps.
Before the game, Fox News tweeted about the Xs and Os, surmising that Sen. John Ensign’s (R-Nev.) absence from the game would deprive the Republicans of their best pitcher. The seamheads at Fox may have been right considering Rep. John Shimkus’s (R-Ill.) putrid second inning in which he surrendered six runs.
Some lawmakers who played even tweeted during the game. Rep. Gresham Barrett (R-S.C.) tweeted about his clutch hitting in the third inning:
hit a triple. tied up at 6.
Oh, if only Scott Skiles was coaching the GOP squad.
The funniest in-game commentary came from our friends at FamousDC:
Schuler struck out – go Redskins!
Thad McCotter just sprinted to first. Is getting taken out for a pinch runner and CPR.
13 – 6 Dems in the third inning. These guys are scoring runs faster than they spend you tax dollars!
Jeff Flake just hit a tripple. But Democrats had tried to insert an earmark into the pitch, so he was bound to hammer it.
Despite the poor weather, snarky commentary and horrible baseball played by middle-aged men made the game fun for everyone who attended.
