Nelson highlights potential obstacle for healthcare reform

Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) appears to be concerned as Congress prepares to debate the Obma administration’s healthcare reform proposal.

He tweeted:

Lotta folks asking me about health-care reform. We really need it. I’m working on it. But we need a viable plan for how to pay for it.

Sen. Nelson sits on the Senate Finance Committee, which will be charged with formulating a plan to pay for the reform package, which the CBO estimated would cost over $1 trillion. The Obama administration has suggested that it may make cuts to Medicare and Medicaid and increase taxes on high-income earners to fund the program, but both ideas are controversial. Nelson seems to have identified the 800-pound gorilla in the room when it comes to healthcare reform.
