Former Republican Rep. Rob Simmons just concluded a $50,000 campaign fundraising push. But now he is asking donors for even more money to fund his Senate race in 2010.
He tweeted:
Will you help us reach $60k to retire Dodd? http://tr.im/p4cE
Simmons links to the fundraising page on his campaign website. He is currently the front runner in a primary contest against former ambassador Tom Foley and state Sen. Sam Caligiuri.
A Qunnipiac University poll released in late May showed Simmons leading Sen. Dodd by a sixteen point margin. The poll was conducted during the fallout over the bonuses paid to AIG executives with federal funds. That incident damaged Sen. Dodd’s image both nationally and in his home state because he holds the chairmanship of the Senate Banking Committee. Yet, the poll indicated that Sen. Dodd was beginning to halt his descent in the polls.
Nevertheless, Simmons newfound fundraising push may indicate that his lead over Dodd has energized donors.
