Romney has the 2012 conservative mantle handed to him

Much has been written how former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney appears to be wisely positioning himself for a 2012 run by keeping his nose clean and selectively interjecting himself into the national debate.

That theory, of course, got another boost on Wednesday when South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) admitted an extramarital affair just more than week after Sen. John Ensign’s (R-Nev.) similar admission.

And now it appears that Romney, who struggled to woo conservatives last year mostly because the evangelical right was skeptical of his Mormonism, may be the conservative choice for 2012, almost by default.

As Lisa De Pasquale, the director of the Conservative Political Acton Conference, just tweeted:

Mitt Romney = Best Week Ever?
