From the Manchester, N.H. Union Leader — Originally published Monday, March 30
The economic recession is so serious that it requires immediate and drastic responses from government, we are constantly told by elected officials everywhere. And yet as soon as those same officials finish telling us this, they return to their regular work of advancing the exact same political agendas they advocated prior to the recession.
This is most obvious in Washington. Before the recession, Barack Obama campaigned on an agenda of increased federal spending on health care, education and alternative energy.
… As President, Obama presented a budget containing massive increases in federal spending on health care, alternative energy and education first; then weeks later finally had his Treasury secretary announce a plan to deal with the core of the financial crisis — toxic mortgages and their related problems.
… The people deserve better representation than this.
