Presidential Campaign

The Man with No Constituency

Michael Bloomberg has a strong chance of winning the presidential election like I have a strong chance of being voted the next American Idol. I guess it could happen, but I don’t know why it would happen.

Just who is Bloomberg’s constituency? He raised taxes in New York, supports same-sex marriage, opposes Second Amendment gun rights, equates U.S./Mexico border security with communism and detained 2,000 war protestors during the GOP convention in Manhattan. So there’s something for everyone to dislike about the guy. Besides, Democrats already have one liberal New Yorker to vote for in Hillary Clinton. Why do they need another?

Imagine if Rudy Giuliani won the GOP nomination and Bloomberg ran as an independent. We’d have to suffer through a “Who was the better mayor of NY?” campaign. Spare me the East Coast-centric political myopia.

The best thing Michael Bloomberg can do for America is keep creating wealth through the free market.

But if he really wants to run, good for him. It makes the plot a bit more interesting.
