Taking on Trump, Fiorina now has a path to nomination

It’s safe to say the “Faces” ad, put out Monday by the super-PAC supporting Carly Fiorina, was one of the few stellar moments in the GOP nomination campaign thus far. It was positive, startlingly savvy, revealing and inspirational. It was also the most successful answer to a Donald Trump attack, of the many he has launched in the race thus far, by any candidate so far.

{mosads}Fiorina, the only woman in the field, was the clear winner of the first debate and has come from behind to burst into the first tier of candidates. Now an official threat, Trump attacked her looks in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine last week and then tried — unconvincingly — to pretend his “look at that face” comment was an attack on her “persona” and not her looks.

In the ad, somehow Team Fiorina had the discipline not to comment on The Donald’s looks and not only took the high road but used the opportunity to punch back; remind women they represent a majority of the country; elevate women; celebrate age and experience; and present a contrast to Hillary Clinton.

There is now a path to the nomination for Fiorina — no joke. The party is divided and the race is in chaos. The establishment thinks Fiorina is with them but she is as much an outsider as Trump or Ben Carson, the pediatric neurosurgeon now in second place. Fiorina can match both Trump and Carson in business, management and leadership experience. But she is actually interested in what our nations’s role must be in the Middle East in the years to come and other small matters like how unsustainable our entitlement system is. She has proven since the race began last spring that she is as qualified to be commander in chief as any other GOP candidate in the race. With establishment candidates stuck in single digits, and Trump and Carson way out front, how can she be counted out?
