Sure, along the way, Jones had made a few mistakes. He signed a petition asking for an investigation into the bizarre theory that George Bush and Dick Cheney had planned the Sept. 11 attacks. And he referred to Republican opponents of Obama’s legislative agenda as “a-holes.”
Big deal! Yet, in just two weeks, through a relentless, Joe McCarthy-esque smear campaign, Beck was able to force Van Jones out of his White House job. Welcome to the Beckification of American politics.
I don’t know what makes me more angry: the fact that Beck was so successful, or the fact that the Obama White House was willing to throw Jones overboard so fast. Either way, it’s a sad day for America.
One thing’s for sure: Now that he’s tasted blood, Glenn Beck is not going to stop with Van Jones. Among White House czars, who’s the next to fall?
