There Are No Phony Soldiers

Once in a while, we all say something wrong — especially those of us who talk for a living. And when you do, the only answer is to admit your mistake, apologize and move on.

But not Rush Limbaugh. He refuses to apologize for calling men and women in uniform who disagree with George Bush’s war in Iraq “phony soldiers.” He still insists his remarks were taken out of context, misquoted, or aimed at somebody totally different — none of which is true.

Which only proves one thing: The guy means it! Rush really does believe that it doesn’t matter whether you served in Afghanistan or Iraq. It doesn’t matter whether you risked your life for our country. If you don’t agree with him on the war, you are a “phony soldier.” And if you’re a member of VoteVets.org who dares criticize him, you’re like a “suicide bomber.”

What an insult to every man and woman in uniform. And what a slap in the face to everything America is supposed to stand for.

Among all the millions serving in the armed forces today, there is not one phony soldier. But among civilians there are Phony Americans.

And Ol’ Rushbo is Phony American No. 1.
