Memo to national Dems: Shut up about Chris Christie
My view is that the presidential hopes of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) are politically over for 2016, but it is time for national Democrats to stop flapping their lips about Christie and let the investigations take their course.
{mosads}The sight of so many third-tier Democratic spinmeisters parading to cable television to pronounce Christie guilty is repellant to me, and probably to many voters. I offer no opinion about what Christie knew or when he knew it.
I offer one opinion, though, and that opinion is that fair investigations should advance unhindered and offer their fair conclusions, based on the evidence. And once they do, then it will be appropriate for the talking heads to talk about it.
It was fine to discuss these matters as legitimate news was breaking, but when there were rumors about Christie allegedly using a police helicopter to view the gridlocked bridge, rumors which apparently were false, pundits and strategists who opined about the rumor only discredited themselves.
If this continues, it will only bring sympathy to Christie. Whether Christie deserves sympathy or condemnation should be determined by the results of fair, impartial investigations that have not yet concluded. Let them finish their work.
Until then, the heavy-breathing herd of pundits should focus on the other matters they seem to believe are urgently important to the future of the nation, such as Monica Lewinsky.
