Boss Trumka issues threat to Dems on public option
Even though the August town halls and public opinion (according to every credible poll executed) indicate the notion of a public option in healthcare and ObamaCare in general is about as welcome as a skunk at a garden party, Trumka announced that Democrats who do not support a public option will be denied the support of the powerful AFL-CIO and implied they could attract powerful union opposition. Well, sort of. Congressional Democrats who fail to kiss the ring of Trumka and instead follow the wishes of their constituents may not receive Trumka’s and other union bosses’ support and the money pilfered from workers’ wages without their consent. But the gap between labor union bosses’ demands and the wishes of rank-and-file union members with regard to ObamaCare is likely the impetus for Trumka’s desperate edict.
Union members throughout the nation forced to join the unions and pay dues if they want to have a job do not necessarily share the same political views as Boss Trumka. But the intimidation and pressure is often so severe, it’s difficult to imagine a union member who opposes ObamaCare showing up at a town hall meeting, knowing he or she will also be seen and heard by the hired union workers paid by the bosses to “counter protest” at the same meeting. Hats off to the brave souls who actually defy union bosses’ threats and exercise their right to free speech anyway. Similarly, hats off to the brave souls in Congress with a “D” after their name if they can defy their union bosses’ threats and instead answer to their actual bosses — their constituents.
