The depths of how dumb the McCain-Palin campaign can get seem to be limitless. The latest Joe the Plumber ads, references, campaign signs and speechifying — even his public appearances with the candidates — make one wonder. He is meant to be a metaphor for the Republicans’ compassion for the working man. Rather, he is a metaphor for the candidates’ sophomoric approach to serious issues like the economy.

That Joe’s name isn’t Joe, and that he’s not a registered plumber, doesn’t diminish the glee that Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin display in incorporating “Joe” into their final dash to the White House — perhaps stagger is the better word. The simplistic, and inaccurate, editorial Joe is meant to offer the American public is a sad joke, In fact, Joe’s position clearly benefits under the tax proposals offered by Sen. Obama.

Joe, John and Sarah are cynically pulling the wool over the eyes of desperate working men and women caught in the continuing economic downfall. Well, maybe Joe can be excused for being misled. John and Sarah should be ashamed.
