The Mac Is Back! McCain Slams Stimulus Pork

While often at odds with conservatives, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) just may be one of their favorite senators today.

After laying appropriately low since his loss to Barack Obama in last November’s presidential election, John McCain is back to doing what he does best — calling out Washington for wasting our tax dollars on pork. In his first e-mail message to his supporters since the election, McCain urged opposition to the pork-laden lefty giveaway so-called “stimulus” package as it now is written.

A new Rasmussen poll shows that only 37 percent of Americans support the bill. It’s no wonder President Obama has to cede to fiscal conservatism an inch or two a day as more of the details of the bill become known to the public. I guess it’s no secret why Obama and congressional Democrats were so eager to rush this thing through and shove it down our throats in an attempt to have it signed on Inauguration Day. They were rightfully nervous that if the American people had a chance to learn the details of this massive spending bill, support would drop off dramatically. They wanted to leave us all in the dark. Thank goodness the Republican minority prevailed.

Obama has been forced to laud fiscal conservatism by capping bonuses to CEOs of companies receiving federal (taxpayers’) funds. He is also being forced to adopt some Republican proposals — though small and few — in the bill now that it has reached the Senate.

If Obama had been able to take as hard a line with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. David Obey (liberal Wisconsin Democrat largely responsible for writing the House bill) then perhaps he could have prevented the delay, the pork and the specter of John McCain’s well-placed, infamous anger that is likely only just beginning to boil — an anger that is spreading like wildfire throughout red and blue states alike.

The Mac is back — and not a moment too soon!
