The Virginia Tech Massacre
Many of us are still reeling from Monday’s shooting at Virginia Tech, the deadliest in our history. Sadness, sorrow, anger and frustration are the many emotions that continue overwhelming me. In an era where we need answers instantly, oftentimes there are no explanations for the irrational behavior of people.
If you’re angry at the world over a breakup with your girlfriend, why take your emotional loss out on innocent people who have no involvement with your trauma or loss? If your grief is beyond the point of repair, why not just kill yourself before involving college students, kids who are just trying to make the most of their educational experience and prepare themselves for life? Why would you in your selfish and pathetic way affect the lives of 33 families, who are now in utter shock and disbelief, overcome with sorrow at the loss of their loved ones?
There are those who will try to politicize this as having to do with guns and the Second Amendment. Let me remind you that this is about a mentally ill and disturbed young man who was bent on committing one of the greatest terrorist attacks on an American university in the history of our nation. There are times in life when tragedies have no explanation, grief has no outlet, and anger has no end. Can we restrict access to these weapons?
Unfortunately, in this nation of 250 million this will happen and there’s nothing anyone in law enforcement can do to stop it. I do believe that everything in your mind changes about this issue of guns once it’s your child at Virginia Tech. Parents should have the absolute comfort that they will never have to watch the news and face the horror that their child’s educational environment has become an assassin’s playground.
Tell us if there is anything any of us can do to stop a weapon that’s bent on mass destruction. We all see people who are weird, exhibit strange behavior, and feel they’re capable of exploding to the point of killing. But in our nation of laws, until they commit a crime, what then stops their tendency to murder, assassinate, and terrorize innocent people? What copycats are now lurking across our landscape, waiting for their 15 seconds of media fame?
